Inspection
The applications for vision systems in industrial applications are
numerous, including reading labels, and checking for defective parts.
Most of these systems operate well with a single camera and standard
software for two-dimensional requirements.
Some applications however require a third dimension. This can occur
for example when using a camera to inspect parts on an assembly
line. If the parts require measurements or defect inspection in
more than two dimensions, a stereo vision setup can be used.
The VS1501 from Valde Systems is often a good fit for these applications
due to its high performance and small size. The VS1501 achieves 5760 MIPS of
performance that is comparable to a 2.5GHz Pentium
processor, yet is packaged in a small 6x5x2 inch enclosure, and
consumes only six watts of power maximum.
