Valde
Systems VS1501
The Valde Systems VS1501 is a powerful new stereo vision processor
with 5760 MIPS of performance-the speed to handle tough image-processing
applications. Features include two independent, full-rate (not shared
bandwidth) IEEE-1394 Firewire interfaces which make the VS1501 well
suited for stereo-vision applications as well as single-camera setups.
With its small 6 x 5 x 2-inch size, the VS1501 fits in tight spaces,
and at less than 6 watts of power it works well for portable applications
like facial-recognition installations or mobile autonomous robotics.
Other features include two inputs and two outputs of I/O per channel
for a total of eight, a dual-speed 10/100 Ethernet port for system
interface and control, and a NTSC/PAL composite video output for monitoring
or setup.
The VS1501 is a stand-alone stereo vision processor. It is designed
to be a high-performance stereo image processor that is part of an
overall vision system. The VS1501 is designed around a C64x series
Digital Signal Processor (DSP) from Texas Instruments. Additional
components include an Ethernet PHY, external SDRAM, FLASH memory,
and two IEEE-1394 Link Layer Controllers (LLCs) and their PHYs. Other
system components typically include a power supply and one or two
IEEE-1394 compliant cameras.
The powerful DSP in the VS1501 which currently achieves an impressive 5760 MIPS performance level. For a comparison to a Pentium 4 processor, please see the
VS1501 data sheet.
The VS1501 is not just attractive from a performance point of view,
but also from a price perspective as well. With its small size, low
cost, and high performance, the VS1501 is particularly well suited
for applications that were previously not considered for other machine-vision
systems due to their performance and price levels.
