Valde Systems has introduced the first camera designed specifically for outdoor autonomous vehicle operation. Now you don't have to choose between cheap, poor-quality security cameras and expensive, but fragile, machine-vision cameras.
The VS151 combines convenient size, ruggedness, and capability with a price you can afford.
The Valde Systems VS1501A is the "analog" version of our popular VS1501 vision processor. It accepts composite video from up to four standard analog cameras, yet still has 4800 MIPS of performance for the speed to handle tough image-processing applications.
With its small 6 x 5 x 2-inch size, the VS1501A can easily be mounted in a drop ceiling or under a table for security applications. At less than 6 watts of power it can be used with an external 802.3af power-over-ethernet (POE) adapter. It can also be used in portable battery-powered applications.
Other features include two inputs and two outputs of I/O per channel for a total of eight, a dual-speed 10/100 Ethernet port, a RS-232 port for system interface and control, and a NTSC/PAL composite video output for monitoring and setup.
The VS1501A can be either a complete standalone vision-processing solution, or part of an overall larger system where there is a need to offload the image processing task to a dedicated, specialized solution. The VS1501A is designed around the DM64x series Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) from Texas Instruments. Additional components include external SDRAM and FLASH memory along with a video encoder.
With support for four cameras, the VS1501A can be programmed to do functions no single camera could accomplish. When the cameras are mounted at 45-degree angles, the images can be "stitched" together to form one image covering 180 degrees. This allows the VS1501A to do the work of four expensive IP network cameras, eliminating the need for troublesome panning mechanisms.
Since the VS1501A uses the same DSP architecture as our standard VS1501, it allows you to start developing applications where standard analog cameras are appropriate. These include image stabilization, digital zoom, or low-latency tele-operation. When your applications require accurate measurement of objects, there is an easy upgrade path to the more accurate FireWire cameras supported by our VS1501.
The VS1501A is not just attractive from a performance point of view, but also from a price perspective as well. It is comparable to expensive IP cameras, or an embedded PC, yet is more flexible with higher performance.
